Trains and Ponies

Tired after a fun day!

We took Emily to the little zoo near us on Saturday. They have a small train that we took her on since she has been so into trains recently. She was a bit unsure initially, but then really liked it. We got to go through a tunnel and she thought that was pretty cool and has talked about the train tunnel since we got off the train. After the train, we walked up the hill to the little farm at the back. Emily looked at all the animals and then Greg took her into the petting zoo part. It's kind of neat having a mini farm at the zoo because those are the animals that are in so many of the little kid books. When we saw the goat, Emily said "goat, maaa," when we saw the sheep, she said "sheep, baaa." She had fun petting the animals, though she was a bit timid. I think it's been good that her sitter has cats and a dog because Emily is used to animals now. After the petting area (and a good hand wash), we walked past the pony rides. Emily kept watching and then asked to go in. We told her that she had to go by herself, without Mommy and Daddy. So she said, "Emmy ride pony by self." We asked her if she was sure, and she said yes. So, Greg went off to buy tokens and then Emily went in for her ride. She did great. No smiles, but she seemed to enjoy it. She has spent a bit of time talking about the ponies since we came home from the zoo, too.

We played at the playground at the zoo, had lunch, and then came home. While Emily sat on the potty before nap, I showed her the map from the zoo and showed her where we'd been during the day. The next morning, she was looking at the map (on the potty, again) and she showed me the train tunnel and the pony rides (in the right location!) without me asking anything, she just pointed them out and told me what they were.

We ended up getting a family pass to the zoo for future visits.

    Hello Emily,
Sounds like you had a great time at the zoo.

Happy to hear you liked your pony ride. When you get bigger, maybe we can meet you at 'Lost Valley Ranch' for a vacation riding horses everyday.

Will you and Mommy and Daddy take Grampa and Grandma to the zoo when we visit you next month? You can show us your favorite animals.

Can't wait till we can see you and talk to you in person. We do enjoy your telephone calls.

    Love,
    Grandma and Grandpa

Emily, we loved seeing the photos of everything you did at the zoo. You looked like such a big girl riding the pony. To this day, Grandy still loves horses, even riding them!

We think you are adorable doing all that you do.

    Love,
    Grandy & Poppy

Very cute pictures. Sounds like Emily is taking after her father with his amazing photographic memory of maps. It was great to see pictures of Emily without an eye patch :)
